Never had it, never will get it.

QuickImage Category Bitching Technical

If you're curious about whether or not I tweet; I do not.

Twitter is the White Noise of the modern, technology centered lifestyle; and has almost zero signal. Some people like it; good for them. Some people like having their testicles pierced with hot needles.

Enjoy your tweets and twattles, have fun with your endless prattle about nothing. Eventually you'll tire of it and realize how much you miss meaningful, contextual conversation with other adults. One can only play Patti-Cake for so long before recognizing they are no longer a child.

But you knew that... Emoticon

Gravatar Image2 - Well said. I agree completely. In the end every one of those Twitter users will be heard saying..."Well there goes x hours of my life that I will never get back."Emoticon

Gravatar Image3 - My team at work is using Twitter within our group (not my public Twitter name) and are finding it quite useful. Expect a blog post in the future about how it is saving my company money.

Gravatar Image4 - Wow, I can understand you not liking it, but your outward venom towards it is a little surprising, especially if you haven't used it in any meaningful manner.

Did Twitter molest you as child?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but one should have an informed opinion after using it for a period of time longer than 5 minutes.

You know I love ya man, but this just seems weird coming from you. At least Rob used the damn thing for awhile before he made well-reasoned arguments against it.

Now excuse me while I go tweet about you hurt Twitter's feelings Emoticon

Gravatar Image5 - hear, hear!
Shouldn't this be tagged under the category of "statement of fact" instead of "bitching"?

@Bruce, we used to use something called trunk radios. Nextel replaced those. I bet you would find that a small group would find more value, and get even more usefulness, since they don't have to stop and thumb-type (assuming they're mobile), by actually conversing verbally with others.

Gravatar Image6 - I find it odd quite how much Twitter has taken off in the Lotus community. Elsewhere in my life, nobody has heard of it. Yes, I know, that makes me old and completely uncool with the kids, but that's okay by me.

I suppose Twitter appeals to geeks partly because you have to install/use so many other bits and bobs of software to make Twitter anything other than completely crap and hopeless. TwitterThis, TwitterThat, TwitNotes, Twitterify, TwitTwatTwot, Twiddle-de-dee, bla bla bla. Just look at the list on Alan's blog: { Link } ... madness!

@5 - I did try it, I really did, but I agree with Devin: it's all noise and almost no signal. I'd rather have a nice cup of tea.

Gravatar Image7 - @4 - Hey there Bruce. Under the right (I'm assuming very tightly controlled) conditions, I suppose twitter could in fact be useful. However those conditions would necessarily have to increase the Signal vs. Noise to a useful level; which is exactly the opposite of normal twitter usage.

@5 - Hey there Grey. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I don't really have anything against twitter other than I see it as a huge waste of time, effort, and mental focus. I suppose that does sound venomous; but consider the context of my rant. Like I said, enjoy your tweets. Emoticon

-Devin.

Gravatar Image8 - It would be interesting to find out how many tweets are equal (in amount of information and spent time) to one blog post :)
I would guess it's about 30.
But tweets are forgotten the next day, while blog post can be found by someone on Google a year later.
